Dressing stone for flattening/truing whetstones with transverse grooves to absorb abrasion. Both natural and synthetic whetstones become hollow over time on the working surface during grinding, creating an inward curvature. The dressing stone is used to create or maintain a flat/straight surface. As a second product application, the dressing stone can also be used to rub off grinding slurry from an existing whetstone. When grinding with slurry, the process benefits from what is known as "rolling grain", which allows for faster and finer sharpening using the same grit than on a bare surface.
Suitable for: Japanese water stones of any grit, as well as soft-bonded natural stones (e.g. Belgian Blue/Coticule).
Not suitable for Arkansas stones, synthetic ceramic stones, or diamond sharpening plates.
Instructions for use
Soak both the whetstone and dressing stone with plenty of water. Rub them together in circular motions until the surface is leveled. Keep both stones wet throughout the process.
Usable surface dimensions: 180 × 60 mm
Height: 25 mm
